Shawn Lopez was born in Los Angeles, CA, raised in the city of Torrance and is currently residing in the city of La Mesa with his wife and son. He took his first piano lesson at age 4, his first violin lesson at age 7 and then learned to play the drums not to long after. His early years focused on playing and performing classical music on the piano. As he grew older he would become heavily influenced by some of the greatest musical artist’s of the 20th century which ultimately led him down a path whereby he would play and sing other styles of music including Jazz, Latin, & Gospel. After high school, he attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma majoring in Music Performance. Never writing a piece of music before, his professor noting his potential encouraged him to pursue Music Composition and later he would graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Music Composition.
After receiving his B.A. in Music Composition, he returned to CA and was accepted to the prestigious University of Southern California Film Music Scoring Program. He had the opportunity to study with some of the most prolific composers in the film industry such as Henry Mancini, Jerry Goldsmith and Buddy Baker who composed music for Walt Disney himself. One of Shawn’s notable highlights of his musical career was the opportunity to conduct the USC symphony orchestra with an original piece of music he composed specifically for them. Upon completion of this film music scoring program, Shawn was fortunate to have the opportunity to do a music internship with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Finally, over his long career in music the most often question asked of him is this: “what is your favorite style of music you like to play?” Without hesitation, his reply is always the same: “I don’t have a favorite style, I just want to play from my heart and with passion and do it unto the Glory Of God, that’s all that really matters in life. The rest I will leave up to Him.”
Shawn was formerly the Pastor of Worship & Creative Expression @ College Ave Baptist Church in San Diego, CA. He is currently a free lance musician and independent music producer for his company MIG MUSIC PRODUCTIONS that produces original music for film, TV, and other production work.
